One-of-One Pieces

What does "one of one" mean?

Many Fox Honey pieces — jewelry, apparel, and home goods — are made in a single quantity and are never exactly replicated. The specific combination of stones, beads, charms, or dye pattern that you see is the one you'll receive. Once it's gone, it's gone.

Can I request something similar to a sold-out one-of-one?

Yes! Reach out via Instagram DM or the contact form and describe what caught your eye. I'm happy to discuss a custom commission using similar materials when available. Custom jewelry orders generally take 2–4 weeks and require payment in advance before work begins.

Materials

What's the difference between gold-filled and gold-plated findings?

Gold-filled (marked 18k or 24k gold-fill on our products) has a thick layer of real gold bonded to a base metal core — it contains significantly more gold than plating and will stay shiny with proper care. Gold-plated has a thinner layer of gold applied over base metal and may wear off faster. Fox Honey pieces use both; the product description for each necklace specifies which is used on the clasp and findings.

What stones and materials do you work with?

Our jewelry features natural gemstones (malachite, lapis lazuli, citrine, amazonite, chrysoprase, jasper, turquoise, serpentine, and more), Czech glass beads, Japanese pearls, baroque pearls, mother of pearl, shell, and ceramic charms. Chains and findings are 18k gold-fill, 24k gold-fill, sterling silver (.925), or gold-plated depending on the piece — always noted in the product description.

Necklace Lengths

How do I choose a necklace length?

Many Fox Honey necklaces come in a fixed length (commonly 15"–19") with a short extension chain (1"–2.5") for adjustability. Made-to-order styles like the Sister Eagle Necklace and Alonso Initial Necklace offer selectable lengths of 16", 18", and 20" (Sister Eagle) or 15" and 18" (Alonso Initial). Check each product listing for the exact measurement and extension options.

Natural Dyes & Color Variation

Why might my piece look slightly different from the photo?

All Fox Honey dyed goods are hand-dyed with natural ingredients — cutch tree syrup, indigo, marigold, and turmeric — and each piece is tied or knotted in unique shibori patterns before dyeing. No two results are identical. The color you receive will be in the same family as the photo, but slight variation in tone, pattern, and depth is a natural and intentional feature of the process.

Will the color fade over time?

Natural dyes soften gently with wear and washing — this is normal and part of the character of naturally dyed goods. Following the care instructions below will keep colors bright for as long as possible.

Care Instructions

How do I care for naturally dyed apparel and linens?

  • Wash cold (especially for the first few washes) with dark colors to prevent dye bleed.
  • Hang to dry or tumble dry on low heat.
  • Hand-embroidered pieces are backed with fabric to prevent fraying — no special treatment needed.
  • Appliqué and beaded heirloom pieces should be spot-cleaned or washed on a gentle cold cycle, then hung to dry or tumble dried on low heat.

How do I care for gold-fill jewelry?

  • Remove before swimming, showering, sleeping, sweating, or applying perfumes, lotions, or skincare products.
  • Store in a clean, dry place when traveling.
  • To remove buildup, gently clean with warm water and a drop of Dawn dish soap, then dry thoroughly with a soft cotton towel.

How do I care for sterling silver jewelry?

  • Sterling silver (.925) naturally patinas over time — this is normal.
  • Restore shine easily with a polishing cloth.
  • Same general rules apply: keep away from water, chemicals, and sweat when possible.

I am happy to rush your order if possible, but know that each piece is made by a real person with two kids and no childcare hehe
